The Federation of Canadian Municipalities, in partnership with the Canadian Council for International Cooperation and Inter Pares, invites you to attend a public lecture by Dr. Milford J. Bateman
Is microfinance a viable option to promote local development and poverty reduction? A Critical Perspective
Why is microfinance intervention successful (or not)? Under what conditions does microfinance intervention support an entrepreneurial culture? Where does the onus of improving microfinance and inclusivity lie?
In local economies around the world, segments of the population are unable to access credit which in turn constrains the evolution of an entrepreneurial culture. Considering the recent trend in microfinance intervention by donor agencies and international development NGOs, renowned consultant, academic and author Dr. Milford J. Bateman discusses microfinance’s effectiveness in reaching those segments of the population traditionally excluded by formal banks and business support services.
A question period will follow, moderated by Dr. Naresh Singh, Program Director, Caribbean Local Economic Development Program, FCM
Thursday, November 1st, 1:30 – 3:30 pm International Development Research Centre, 150 Kent Street, Ottawa
