Here’s a rundown of the news we covered this week:

Tavis Nembhard, a former director of digital communications in the office of Ontario Premier Doug Ford, has joined Sussex Strategy as a senior associate of social media and video content. He also previously served as a senior multimedia communications strategist for the Ontario PC Party. Nembhard will lead the video production work for Sussex Adrenaline, the creative and digital division of the firm.

General trade union Unifor was the most active lobbying organization in January, with 75 communication reports posted last month. The majority of Unifor’s activity occurred between Jan. 25 and Jan. 29 in a lobbying blitz that involved contact with 89 MPs, including Minister of Fisheries Bernadette Jordan and the Liberals’ Jim Carr, who holds the title of special representative for the Prairies. Unifor representatives were urging government officials to implement a COVID-19 recovery plan that protected jobs in the aerospace sector, according to posts on the Unifor Twitter account.

The University of Saskatchewan (USask) led last week with 23 posted communication reports. The first volunteers for a COVID-19 vaccine trial at the university have been selected, according to a Feb. 3 press release. The university communicated with Conservative MPs representing Saskatchewan ridings, including Randy Hoback on Jan. 11 and Jan. 19, Gary Vidal on Jan. 15, and Brad Redekopp on Jan. 26. Chartered Professional Accountants of (CPA) Canada followed behind last week with 16 communication reports posted.

In new registrations, the Canadian Air Traffic Control Association (CATCA) started a file on Feb. 2 with consultant Kevin Bosch of Hill+Knowlton Strategies. Bosch’s colleague, Don Boudria, was added on Feb. 8. CATCA, which represents Canada’s air traffic controllers, advocating for a reversal of a decision by NAV Canada to close air traffic control towers in several cities, according to the registry. Bosch and Boudria will communicate with the Prime Minister’s Office, Transport, MPs and senators.

The Heritage Park Society started its first file on Jan. 25 with consultants Jeffrey Sterzuk and Ryan Greer of Prairie Sky Strategy. The society, which governs Heritage Park Historical Village in Calgary, is interested in speaking with the federal government about measures to ensure the safe re-opening and recovery of tourism attractions, according to the registry. Sterzuk and Greer will communicate with Innovation and Western Economic Diversification of Canada.

PGA Tour Canada started its first file on Feb. 8 with Summa Strategies consultants Rob LeForte, Adam Yahn and Robin MacLachlin. The Tour is interested in speaking with the federal government about the safe resumption of professional golf in Canada this summer, according to the file. PGA Tour Canada did not play any of its 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Summa consultants will communicate with Innovation, Immigration, Health, the Public Health Agency of Canada, and Canadian Heritage.
