Here’s the news we covered this week:

Results Canada’s Taryn Russell spoke with The Lobby Monitor about her organization’s May 8 lobby day. She said they had two specific goals: convince parliamentarians that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau must attend a UN meeting on tuberculosis in September and encourage the Liberal government to renew its commitment towards education for women and girls in crisis.

In this week's On Queen Street, we profiled Gurratan Singh, a former Ontario NDP MPP, who joined Crestview Strategy as vice-president and Global Public Affairs’ (GPA) new director of transportation, infrastructure, and communities, David Friedland, who joined the company after two years focusing on government relations at the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs.

The Grain Farmers of Canada submitted the highest number of communication reports during the week of May 15. The reports accounted for its lobby week held between April 14 and April 20, which was focused on advocating for the passage of Bill C-234, An Act to amend the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act.

In new registrations, Hanwha Ocean hired Robert Evershed, consultant for Prospectus Associates, who registered on May 23. The file states that Evershed will seek to communicate with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Defence, Procurement, Finance, Global Affairs, Innovation, the Treasury Board, MPs and senators as part of its pursuit of a government contract under what is known as the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project.

Also interested in the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project is ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems Canada Inc., which hired four Hill+Knowlton Strategies consultants to “support the [company] in its pursuit of the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project,” according to the files registered by H+K’s Neil Brodie, Michael Plastino, Robert Davidson, and Andy Singh. The files were registered on May 24, but were backdated to May 15 (for Davidson) and May 16 (for Brodie, Plastino, and Singh).

From government procurement to funding grants, Lithion Technologies Inc. joined the registry this week for the first time in order to apply for government incentive programs to support its plan to build a manufacturing operation in Quebec.
