Here’s the news we covered this week:

A Lobby Monitor review of the lobbying commissioner’s 2022-23 and 2021-22 reports found that numerous records were broken during the most recent fiscal year, including those for the annual number of submitted communication reports and active registrations.

The Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada (CHF) filed the highest number (eight) of the 128 communication reports submitted to the federal lobbyists’ registry this past week as it met with MPs to discuss issues related to co-operative housing. The organization’s federal lobbyists’ registry file is represented in-house by Timothy Ross, executive director at CHF. CHF  communicated with several parliamentary secretaries including: Soraya Martinez Ferrada, parliamentary secretary to Housing Minister Ahmed Hussen; and Adam van Koeverden, parliamentary secretary to Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos; and Julie Dabrusin, parliamentary secretary to Natural Resources Minister, Jonathan Wilkinson

GE Energy Power Conversion Canada Inc. is joining the federal lobbyists’ registry for the first time to discuss incentive programs and procurement opportunities related to Public Services and Procurement’s National Shipbuilding Strategy. The company’s vice-president of sales, Robert Freeman, registered to represent it on July 4 (the file itself is backdated to June 1). The company will seek communications with Procurement, Defence, Innovation, Transport, and Fisheries and Oceans.

Another first-time registrant is Convertus Group, a green energy company, which hired Fratton Park Inc. consultant Regan Watts to represent it in discussions. Watts, who registered on July 5, is looking to communicate with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Finance, Innovation, Natural Resources, Environment, Infrastructure, and MPs.

In new registrations, U.S.-based United Aeronautical Corporation (UAC) has hired Edelman Global Advisory consultant Pierre Cyr to discuss procurement opportunities in relation to Canada’s ongoing forest fires. Cyr’s registration was posted on July 4, and backdated to July 3. The consultant will seek communications with the PMO, Procurement, Environment, National Defence, Natural Resources, Public Safety, and MPs.
