Here’s the news we covered this week:

The Body Shop is advocating the federal government to extend election “day” to three days, and to move it to the weekend. The Lobby Monitor interviewed the company’s vice president of marketing, Hilary Lloyd, who explained that the goal of the campaign is to increase voter turnout, especially amongst the youth.“We are proposing to hold federal elections on both Saturday and Sunday,” said Lloyd. “This would give youth more time to vote outside of school, work and family commitments, and the opportunity to work and participate in the election itself.”

The Lobby Monitor spoke with the top three organizations by number of submitted communication reports in the second quarter of 2023 about the methods and strategy of their advocacy efforts. Each organization pursued different ways of reaching crucial stakeholders and spreading awareness of their particular cause.

Cooperation Canada submitted the largest number of communication reports in the week of July 24 as it sought discussions with the federal government about providing humanitarian groups with additional funding. Cooperation Canada contributed 33 out of 137 total communications.

In this week’s registrations, Generate Upcycle is joining the federal lobbyists’ registry for the first time as it is looking to secure funding from the federal government’s green incentive programs. The company is interested in discussing investment tax credits, and initiatives that would provide funds to assist the firm to produce natural gas and green hydrogen from organic waste.

Also new to the registry is Helium Developers Association of Canada as it joins to advocate the federal government on policies related to the exploration and development of helium. The organization wants the federal government to create policies that will allow upstream helium exploration and development, and to provide companies in the sector with a “fair and equal tax treatment provided [to] mineral resource developers,” according to the registry file.

In new registrations, VoltaXplore Inc. has added another consultant to its roster to discuss government support for battery manufacturing. The company will communicate with officials about its funding application and the government’s support for battery manufacturing in Canada.
