The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) will hold its 2012 Sustainable Communities Conference and Trade show at the Westin hotel in Ottawa on Feb. 8-10. Hundreds of cities and communities represented by councillors and mayors from across Canada will come together to share their experiences, learn from experts and discuss the latest strategies for sustainable community development. Provincial and Federal representatives will also attend. More than 500 delegates are expected.

The Canadian Urban Transit Association will hold its Transit Awareness Days on Ottawa in February 8-9. Participants will attend a briefing on Wednesday afternoon, followd by a meeting with the executive committee. A reception will be held together with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' sustainable communities conference.

The Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA) will celebrate the launch of the United Nations International Year of Cooperatives in 14 cities across Canada with special events taking place in Ottawa. The CCA said the event is an opportunity to raise public awareness of co-operatives and their social and economic contributions to society, to support the growth and development of co-operatives in Canada and around the world and to begin legacy initiatives that will outlive the International Year and inspire others to support the co-operative movement. The event's hashtag is #coop12jan.
