Here’s a look back at the news we covered this week:

Prairie Sky Strategy, a consulting firm with three offices in Western Canada, opened its newest lobby shop in Ottawa this week with a former Conservative staffer at the helm. Ryan Greer, previously an executive assistant to former prime minister Stephen Harper, opened the firm’s Ottawa office on Nov. 2 as a senior strategy adviser. Greer is also a former senior policy adviser to Conservative MP Diane Finley when she was minister of Public Works, and he served for more than four years as a senior director of transportation and infrastructure policy with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) organized a large-scale virtual lobby event this week, with more than 200 meetings scheduled between union workers and designated public office holders. The union workers are pushing for the federal government to take action towards fulfilling commitments in the Liberals’ throne speech, delivered on Sept. 23, according to Hassan Yussuff, the president of the CLC. The organization is advocating for job creation through infrastructure investments, and for expanded domestic production of steel, aluminum, forestry products and zero-emissions vehicles.

Gillian Smith, a former Ontario Progressive Conservative candidate, joined National Public Relations on Oct. 13 as the managing partner overseeing operations at the firm’s Toronto office. Smith’s background includes two years as chief marketing officer for the Toronto Region Board of Trade. In 2018, she ran as the Progressive Conservative candidate in Toronto’s University-Rosedale riding, and finished third. In the GR space, Smith is a former associate for Hill+Knowlton Strategies.

The David Suzuki Foundation contributed five communication reports out of the 78 total reports posted last week. The foundation contacted NDP MP and environment critic Laurel Collins on Sept. 22 and Sept. 30, and discussed the Canadian Environmental Protection Act and economic recovery efforts. H2V Énergies also posted five communication reports last week. The Quebec-based company, which produces hydrogen, is interested in discussing federal funding to develop a new hydrogen plant in its home province. H2V contacted Bloc Québécois MP Simon-Pierre Savard-Tremblay, the party’s critic of industry and international trade, on Oct. 26.

In new registrations, Riipen Networks started its first file on Nov. 4 with its CEO Dana Stephenson. The company provides an online platform that facilitates virtual internships. It is interested in discussing possible federal funding to expand and deliver its job and skills-learning services, according to the registry. Stephenson will communicate with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Innovation, Finance, Employment and Social Development Canada, MPs and senators.

The International Minerals Innovation Institute (IMII), an organization that attempts to support the Saskatchewan minerals industry through developing education, training, and research and development initiatives, started its file on Oct. 12 with consultant James Miley of Earnscliffe Strategy Group. The IMII is interested in speaking to the federal government about its work related to counselling companies on safely reopening remote mining operations during, and after, COVID-19. Miley will communicate with the PMO, Natural Resources, Finance, Environment, Innovation, and with senators and MPs.

Fenestration Canada, a national organization that supports and represents the window and door manufacturing industry, started its first file on Oct. 1 with Stéphane Labelle, its executive director. The organization is interested in obtaining federal funding to help the window and door industry recover from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the registry. Labelle will communicate with Natural Resources.
